The Harvey County Commission authorized the transfer of 51 replaced 800 MHz radios to local agencies including Walton Fire, Burrton EMS, Sedgwick EMS, Hesston Fire & EMS and Newton Public Works. Communications Director Don Gruver told the commission the radios range "from 10–14 years old, and are no longer supported by Motorola," and that agencies receiving the equipment will be charged $500 per radio.
Commissioners noted the radios remain useful though some units may be difficult to repair. The transfer was approved unanimously; county staff recommended charging a modest fee rather than auctioning the units, which staff said would force local departments to buy replacements at higher cost.
