Board repeals three code sections ahead of new zoning ordinance effective July 1
Summary
The Board unanimously adopted an ordinance repealing Chapter 10 Article 3, Chapter 54 and Chapter 74 of the Mecklenburg County Code because those subjects will move into the new zoning ordinance effective July 1, 2026.
County Administrator Gottschalk presented an ordinance to repeal three sections of the Mecklenburg County Code of Ordinances that will be incorporated into the new zoning ordinance effective July 1, 2026. He described the action as a housekeeping measure to eliminate duplicate regulations while preserving existing topics, including administration of special event permits being shifted to Planning and Zoning.
On motion of Jim Jennings, the Board unanimously adopted the repeal ordinance, which becomes effective at 12:01 a.m. on July 1, 2026. The ordinance responds to the Board's May 11 resolution of intent and prepares county code for the new zoning ordinance implementation.
