The Board of Aldermen on July 20 set 30-day deadlines or placed demolition orders on several properties the city described as unsafe or dilapidated.
Building Inspector Jim Buzzard presented a slate of properties that prompted unanimous motions for either extension, vacate orders or demolition. For 602 E 11th, Buzzard said new owner Mark Merritt plans to remove fence and brush and “scrape the lot,” and aldermen gave Mr. Merritt 30 days or until the August 17 meeting to proceed. At 104 W 16th, bids for demolition (McDowell $6,500; Ehrsam $7,950) were listed and Lynly Nims, representing New Seasons, agreed the house “does need to be torn down.” The board moved to place a Demo Order for review on August 17.
Other actions included Demo Orders or 30-day extensions for 209–211 W 5th, 504 E 10th (Repair/Vacate), 701 Poplar (vacate deadline), 708 Gulf and 1502 Gulf; each item was set for re-evaluation at the August 17 meeting. The board’s actions were uniformly approved on voice vote.
