Staff told the Garfield County Planning Commission that the county is beginning a multi-year update of its general plan and has contracted Avenue Consultants — the firm that prepared the county transportation plan — to prepare the document. Staff said the county's current plan is one of the oldest in Utah and that the update will include land-use goals and other elements.
There was no action at this meeting, but staff said they plan to present draft material in advance of an October meeting and that Avenue Consultants will be available virtually or in person to discuss the draft. Staff suggested a community-town-hall approach has been used elsewhere but cautioned the county should expect limited turnout for public events.
Commissioners asked for a focused review of land-use priorities and schedule availability; staff said the next working session on the plan is scheduled for Oct. 15 to allow commissioners to discuss goals and possible regulatory changes before moving toward adoption.
