Commission approves culvert and park contracts; engineer seeks power quote for park lights

The Traverse County Commission on July 1 unanimously approved two construction contracts recommended by County Engineer Chad Gillespie: the CSAH 16 culvert replacement with J.B. Nanik Inc. and the County Park Project with Joe Riley Construction Inc.
Gillespie told the Board the lights south of Wheaton were originally received under a federal grant and are now in need of replacement. "Traverse Electric Quote is for $7,282.33 to get power to both lights," Gillespie said, and he added the county is awaiting a separate quote from Otter Electric to retrofit the existing solar units. Gillespie said he will also evaluate the option of removing the lights and will return to the Board with cost comparisons and recommendations.
Gillespie also reported the county should receive $24,368.40 from the recent auction of surplus equipment. Chair Jerrel Olson asked whether hooking up power would create ongoing monthly service fees; Gillespie confirmed there would be a service charge and said he would include that cost in his follow-up report.
