Regional free clinic (RAM) seeks county contribution, volunteers and venues

Justine Young (S13), CEO of Piedmont Senior Resources, briefed the board on plans for a regional Remote Area Medical (RAM) clinic to be held March 28–29 at Cumberland County High School supporting residents across a seven‑county Piedmont health district. The RAM clinic — first‑come, first‑serve with tickets distributed overnight before the Saturday clinic — will provide dental, vision and medical care with follow‑up referral services.
Young said the organizing group must raise $36,000 to host the event and requested a $2,500 contribution from each county in the region. She reported a $10,000 grant from Centra Health and an additional $5,000 from another entity and said volunteers are needed for medical roles, parking and food services. Young said local medical providers, Longwood University nursing students and public health partners are assisting with staffing and follow‑up care.
Board members asked about outreach and coordination with social services; Young said more detailed service and volunteer information will be distributed after the holiday season. Supervisors indicated willingness to consider the request and to include the item in unfinished business for potential allocation.
