The Avon Board of Finance unanimously approved a $150,000 supplemental appropriation Sept. 22 to fund construction of a softball field at Sperry Park.
Micah Rousey moved the appropriation and Carl Gisnarian seconded; the motion increased CIFA Other Local Revenues (Donations & Grants, Private Sources) and added an appropriation to Town CIP-Facilities for Sperry Park Field Construction. The minutes record the vote as Gisnarian, Loveless, Lowry, Rousey, Salchert and Szekeres voting in favor (6-0-0).
During discussion Board members reviewed the nonprofit filings for the Avon Little League. As recorded in the minutes: "So, after review of the tax filings of the Avon Little League, I was pleased to discover that it operates as intended with player fees and grants that are used to support appropriate expenditures which benefit those residents whose children play baseball and softball." That review helped justify private-source funding for the project.
The minutes do not record a detailed construction schedule or capital contractor; the appropriation provides initial funding to move the project through design or procurement phases.
