Scott explained current employees working 20 hours weekly are partially eligible for county health insurance but must pay a significant share of premiums; increasing hours to 26 would shift those roles to fully employer-paid coverage, improving take-home pay and competitiveness. She said the office has historically returned some vacancy savings and that the request is an investment in staff retention rather than a response to customer-service shortfalls.
Commissioners thanked Scott for the information; no action was taken during the hearing and the request will be considered in final budget decisions.
