Avon to pay $905,369.73 to buy extra sewer flow capacity from Farmington

The Board of Finance unanimously approved a supplemental appropriation of $905,369.73 to purchase additional sewer flow capacity from the Town of Farmington.
Town Engineer Larry Baril explained Avon is contractually allowed 737,232.73 gallons per day on average under its intermunicipal agreements. After a very wet period in early 2024 the town recorded an average daily flow of 838,165.70 gallons per day—an overage of roughly 100,932.97 gallons per day. Using the agreed formula (overage divided by plant capacity multiplied by plant and interest cost), Baril presented the calculation that produced a required payment of $905,369.73.
"This overage triggered a need to purchase additional flow capacity from Farmington," Baril said, and the board voted to appropriate funds from the Sewer Fund to cover the payment. On a motion by Micah Rousey seconded by Brian Loveless the motion carried with all members voting in favor.
