Board approves $45,210.07 in delinquent accounts for collection

The Board of Finance voted unanimously to approve a suspense list totaling $45,210.07, suspending delinquent motor vehicle, supplemental motor vehicle and personal property accounts and referring them to a collection agency for further action.
Collector of Revenue Halaree Monnerat told the board $24,388.43 of the total is motor vehicle debt, $11,390.54 is supplemental motor vehicle and $9,431.10 is personal property. She said personal property delinquencies largely reflect businesses that have gone out of business and that the collection agency will perform skip tracing on motor vehicle accounts when appropriate.
"We want to treat every delinquent account fairly whether it's a high dollar amount or low dollar amount," Monnerat said, describing the agency process. Board member Brian Loveless asked about a business on the list that remaining in operation elsewhere; Monnerat said the business no longer operates in Avon and the town lacks jurisdiction to pursue health permits or assets.
On a motion by Brian Loveless, seconded by Micah Rousey, the board voted in favor (Gisnarian, Johnson, Loveless, Lowry, Rousey, Salchert and Szekeres voted in favor).
