Olmsted Falls adopts cybersecurity program to meet state requirement

Council adopted Ordinance 65-2025 on Dec. 16, which implements a cybersecurity program pursuant to Ohio Revised Code Section 9.64. Law Director Max Rieker told council that much of the program already exists through vendor practices and that the ordinance is primarily a formal requirement from the State Auditor; he asked council to adopt on first reading and council moved to suspend rules and adopt the ordinance the same night.
The motion to suspend and to waive the reading in its entirety each passed on voice votes of 5–0; the subsequent recorded poll to adopt also passed 5–0. The minutes record Rieker’s recommendation and the council’s unanimous adoption as the city fulfills its statutory cybersecurity obligation.
The adoption places the city’s cybersecurity program on the books before the end of the calendar year as required by state law.
