The Cumberland Comprehensive Plan Committee voted unanimously to forward its 170‑page draft comprehensive plan to the town planning board after making and approving a set of technical amendments.
Evan Sweetser moved that the committee accept the plan as amended and forward it to the planning board; Scott Dresser seconded, and the motion carried unanimously. Chair Steve Moriarty said the plan would likely appear on a planning-board agenda in September or October and that the council would hold a later public hearing before any final adoption.
Committee members agreed to a set of edits to be attached to the planning‑board packet and delegated staff to implement them. Bridget Perry, the town’s director of planning and sustainability, said staff would incorporate changes including a glossary of acronyms, added labels on stream maps, name labels for the committee photo, and a fiscal‑capacity addendum capturing fiscal-year 2026–27 figures.
The committee framed the vote as a recommendation to the planning board and reminded the public that the committee does not have authority to adopt the plan; that is a council function. The hearing and process are governed by the Maine Growth Management Act, which requires at least one public hearing after the plan is publicly available.
