County treasurer mails 27,823 tax statements; seeks policy discussion on delinquent collections

Harvey County Treasurer Amy Perkins told commissioners that 27,823 tax statements were being mailed the day of the Nov. 12 meeting and provided monthly operational statistics for October, including 5,301 vehicle-tag transactions and 667 driver's-license transactions. Perkins said she has implemented a plan to reduce a backlog of vehicle title transactions and is personally working to complete bank reconciliations back to May 2024, when records were last in balance.
Perkins also raised the county’s resolution on collection of delinquent taxes as a topic she would like to revisit with the commission. She further stated that she is choosing to forgo an additional payment of about $10,760 per year from the motor vehicle fund allowed by KSA 8-145, directing those funds to the general fund to offset operating costs.
