Harvey County certifies Nov. 4 election after canvass; Newton commission tallies shift

The Harvey County Board of Commissioners formally certified the results of the Nov. 4, 2025 general election at its Nov. 12 meeting after canvassing provisional and challenged ballots. Election Officer Rick Piepho reported a turnout of 22.9% with 5,258 total ballots cast and 22,964 registered voters for the election.
The board reviewed 84 provisional and two challenged ballots in seven grouped categories. Commissioner Becky Reimer moved and Commissioner Don Schroeder seconded a series of motions to accept or reject specific groups — for example, approving 30 "in-county move" ballots and declining to count 21 "not registered" ballots — and each motion passed unanimously. After staff opened and scanned 62 accepted ballots, Piepho said the tabulated winners and outcomes stayed the same except the first and second highest totals in the Newton City Commission race switched.
Reimer moved to certify the canvass as presented; Schroeder seconded, and the motion passed unanimously. The certification completes the county’s canvass process and records the official results for races and ballot measures reported by the clerk’s office.
