Board approves draft letter supporting Department of Water Supply's FY 2027 budget

The Board of Water Supply on March 19 approved a corrected draft letter stating its support for the Department of Water Supply's FY 2027 budget request. Chair Donna Sterling asked a staff edit so the first sentence would read: "The Board of Water Supply has reviewed, not voted on, the Department of Water Supply's proposed FY 2027 budget and supports the Department's requests for the following reasons:". Member John Helly moved to approve the correction and Member Tina Boteilho seconded; the motion passed with six ayes.
Board members discussed the letter after the Department concluded its presentation of the budget and closed public testimony. Deputy Corporation Counsel Yukari Murakami advised the Board that a prior motion had been entered to discuss the letter and the Board could then make a separate motion to adopt it. The adopted letter reflects review and support but notes the Board did not take a formal vote on the Department's budget proposal itself. The Board set no further action or funding decisions; those remain part of the County's overall budget process.
