Albany County panel approves $393,000 DCJS grant to expand probation oversight

Albany County's Public Safety Committee approved an agreement with the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services to accept a $393,000 gun-involved-violence elimination grant and amend the Probation Department's 2026 budget, Director Bill Connor said.
"This year, we're scheduled to receive, 393,000," Bill Connor said in remarks introducing the item. He told the committee the county partners with the Albany Police Department, the sheriff's department and the district attorney's office on the grant. Connor said the award pays for 3.5 probation officers, investigation services to the courts when reports are ordered, overtime and GPS monitoring.
Committee members approved the authorization and the budget amendment by voice vote. The motion was introduced and seconded during the meeting; the record shows an affirmative voice vote but does not include a roll-call tally of individual member votes. The county indicated the grant will be administered through the Probation Department and used for supervision and monitoring of people on probation for gun-related offenses.
