Butler County appoints Emily Jensen as county health officer

The Butler County Board of Commissioners voted June 30 to appoint Emily Jensen as the county Health Officer under K.S.A. 65-201 after the retirement of Jamie Downs. County Administrator Will Johnson told the board the county selected Jensen through a search process and that the Health Officer role traditionally accompanies the Health Department director.
"The appointment of Ms. Jensen would be in compliance to K.S.A. 65-201 and she would serve in this position at the pleasure of the Board and until such time as a successor is appointed," Administrator Will Johnson said as Jensen introduced herself to the board. Commissioner Dan Woydziak moved to approve the appointment and Commissioner Jeff Masterson seconded; the motion carried 4-0.
The action fills a vacancy created by the former director's retirement; the board did not attach any additional conditions to the appointment at the meeting. Staff did not present implementation dates or additional personnel changes beyond the appointment.
