The Anchorage City Council on May 12 approved an impervious-surface variance for 1605 Evergreen Road and assessed a $500 fine after the owner acknowledged changing a previously approved permeable driveway plan to a paved turnaround without seeking approval.
Applicant Ryan Jordan presented engineered calculations and a vegetated buffer intended to mitigate stormwater runoff. Councilmember Karin Tyrer said the increase on a property already over the limit likely would not have been approved if presented in advance. Hunter Wilson moved to approve the variance and impose the $500 fine; Tyrer seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
Staff noted that Anchorage City Hall and the public works director had contacted Jordan and his contractor before paving to explain that changes required approval and that the alternative permeable materials needed verification by Public Works. The council accepted the mitigation plan as presented and recorded the fine.
