Rec director: pool pass sales outpace projections; summer passes will stop on Friday

Shelly, the recreation director, told the commission the department has outpaced its conservative projections for pool pass sales and is pausing summer pass sales to manage capacity.
"We've actually had we've outpaced our projections for pool pass sales and so, we're gonna stop selling summer passes, Friday so that notice has gone out to everybody," Shelly said, explaining that nonresident sales recently opened. She added that the department expects to keep annual passes available and that drop-in visits remain an option for people who don't have passes.
Shelly also reported roughly 1,200 swim registrations across multiple levels and that the department recently hosted two days of high school PE at the pool with about 150 students. Commissioners asked how the department measures pool utilization and whether both pools are counted independently; Shelly said lifeguards periodically count occupants and the activity pool has been most impacted.
On rentals, Shelly said the poolside room seats 24 and that resident bookings are opened earlier than nonresident ones. The department said it is monitoring pass sales and staffing needs to match guard coverage to expected attendance.
Next steps: staff will monitor utilization as the season continues and report back if adjustments to capacity controls or scheduling are needed.
