Lubbock artist describes commissioned painting presented to Musashino delegation

Local artist Janelle Berrigan Spivey introduced a commissioned painting made as a gift for the visiting Musashino delegation and explained elements of the design that reference Lubbock imagery, such as the city-limit sign and local sunrises. She said the commission was personal and meaningful, and described the painting's sentimental elements.

A Musashino delegation representative (introduced a Mr. Kobayashi from international affairs) explained that the artwork is a style of glassware called Edokiriko and referenced a historic Edo-period print by Hiroshige Utagawa as comparable provenance for the subject matter. The delegation said the gift reflects the program's long cultural ties and hoped the relationship would continue for many years.
