CDOT says I‑270 FEIS ROD signing set for Aug. 20; bridge work and landfill preloading to start in 2026–2027

CDOT project director Dave Marinich told the Adams County Board that the Final Environmental Impact Statement and record of decision for the I‑270 corridor will be signed on Aug. 20, 2026. He said early construction will start this October with earth‑preloading on north‑side embankments that sit on a historic landfill so the ground can settle before traffic is shifted and bridges are rebuilt.
"We are signing the FEIS fraud on 08/20/2026," Marinich said, adding that the first phase of construction will emphasize critical bridges and earthwork. Marinich explained preloading allows settlement to occur over about a year so the corridor can be made safe before major traffic switches and reconstruction.
Marinich described a phased schedule: preloading and preparatory work this fall, bridge reconstruction beginning in March 2027 and design work to advance the remainder of the corridor to 30% by October with potential construction of the remaining corridor as early as 2029. He also said CDOT will pursue a delivery‑method selection and bring on a design consultant for the rest of I‑270.
The county commissioners asked about neighborhood impacts and mitigation; Marinich pointed to federally required noise walls in some neighborhoods and a package of community enhancements to address safety, drainage and transit access. CDOT invited commissioners to an FEIS signing ceremony and to continue coordinating on right‑of‑way and community outreach plans.
