Town staff told trustees that some park operations cost far more than current user fees recover. Staff said ball-field lights cost roughly $129 each time they are turned on, while the town currently charges a low flat fee for fields and events.
"I think we pay, like, a $129 every time they turn them on, whether you're there for an hour or 4," staff (speaker 1) said, pressing the board to consider fees that better match operating costs. Trustees discussed installing timers for lights, increasing damage deposits for large events (proposals ranged from $400 to $1,000 for large groups), and creating a separate camping security deposit to capture the costs associated with multi-day festivals.
Trustees expressed support for tiered deposits and modest increases for business licenses and park fees, and asked staff to include recommended fee amounts and deposit tiers in the next meeting packet so the board can consider formal adoption aligned with the budget calendar.
