Health Department Presents 2025 Report: Vaping Education, Weather Radios and Septic Work Highlighted

Caffrey said the department educated 831 fifth- and sixth-graders on vaping prevention, hired a part‑time preparedness coordinator and distributed more than 1,500 weather radios to rural residents. Environmental services issued 128 septic permits, performed 264 site consultations and completed 138 environmental complaint investigations. The department also provided seasonal flu shots and vaccines and launched a Trail of Health & Safety event in partnership with Harrison County Hospital.
Caffrey did not request additional county appropriations during the report but used the presentation to note ongoing program activity and partnerships. Council members asked clarifying questions but no formal action on the report was required.
