The Dearborn Heights School District #7 Board of Education held an evening study session to review and harmonize policies and handbooks before the start of the school year. The chair opened the meeting and established a quorum, describing the session as an open forum for policy edits and a planning exercise for a stronger upcoming school year. "We have a quorum," the chair announced at the start of the meeting.
Trustees and staff focused on the student code of conduct (policy 5500) and whether procedural detail such as due-process steps belong in board policy or in school handbooks. Staff noted the draft policy gives particular attention to academic honesty and the use of AI, and trustees directed staff to make the policy explicitly point readers to each school’s handbook for step-by-step procedures. The board also asked staff to ensure administrative guidelines (AGs) and BoardDocs reflect the same language and to return suggested edits at a follow-up study session.
