District reports academic gains, student activities and $10,000 in scholarship fundraising

Principals and student representatives delivered updates on school performance and student life during the March 12 board meeting. Mr. Lopez, Los Robles Elementary principal, highlighted continued academic growth and parent engagement; Mrs. Torres, Monte Vista Elementary principal, reported CAASPP gains and described school support after the recent death of a student. Student Board Representative Shelley Andrade updated trustees on Monache High School activities including FFA, athletics, and band and color guard events.
Superintendent Nate Nelson reported that the Porterville Education Foundation golf tournament raised over $10,000 for student scholarships; the scholarships will be presented April 29 at the Annual Academic Achievement Awards Program at Granite Hills High School. The minutes record recognitions for staff and schools: Citrus High named a Model Continuation High School and Harmony Magnet Academy and Porterville Military Academy named California Distinguished Schools by the Superintendent of Public Instruction.
