Utilities manager Green reported April 9 that the SST energy conservation upgrades at the wastewater plant are nearing interior completion and early operation shows roughly a 33% reduction in power bills in recent months. Green said remaining SST work includes MCC conductor installation and underground runs, with the SST program and related ECMs on track for finalization this summer.
Green also reported the successful demolition of an aging Stewart Street tank and said the replacement tank is on a schedule that could bring the new tank into service in August if weather and lead times remain on schedule. On water supply, Green said San Simeon Creek flows and local well levels are trending downward and that staff is monitoring for possible stage‑2 drought triggers; he encouraged voluntary 10% water use reduction by customers while noting recent rains could help aquifer recharge.
Board members praised staff for the rapid tank demolition and asked staff to post biological survey and monitoring reports when available. Green said sampling under the new DWR permit (R320250007) and a monitoring plan are being implemented and that staff will bring results to R&I and the board when analyses are complete.
