Community updates: Hometown Heroes, police praise, streets cleanup and approved Halloween hours

During the public-visitor portion of the Sept. 16 meeting, Council President Riley Cross said he had spoken with Lance Greer regarding the Hometown Heroes lawsuit and that 'they would not be taking any money from the civil case against Hometown Heroes.' Bev Ballog, representing Hometown Heroes, thanked the borough for its support and said she was 'happy to hear that Lance is not accepting the money.'
Mayor Robert Wolf read his reports and praised the police department, saying the department had been 'extremely busy and really appreciative of all they do for the community with the help they have.' Police Chief David Pernice noted he had sent letters to Consortium candidates. Streets Supervisor Bob Phillips reported crews were cleaning up for Homecoming and patching holes.
Council also approved trick-or-treating in the borough for Thursday, Oct. 31, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.; the motion was moved by Councilor Steadman and seconded by Councilor Kerns and carried unanimously. Council President reiterated that the borough is not connected to Hometown Heroes organizationally but expressed support for the project's cause.
