A resignation letter dated Sept. 18, 2024 from Officer Rick Skonieczka, effective no later than Sept. 30, 2024, was received and Councilor Joyce moved to accept it; the motion carried unanimously. Chief Pernice presented a certified list with two candidates and requested authorization to complete background checks and permission to hire two part-time officers; Council approved completion of background checks (motion by Councilor Joyce; seconded by Councilor Steadman).
After an executive session to discuss personnel and contracts, Council moved to approve a police contract for Zackery Shelly (motion by Councilor Steadman; seconded by Councilor Kerns). The minutes record the motion carried unanimously. The minutes do not include candidate names for the background checks beyond the certified-list count, nor the contract terms for Shelly.
