Police Chief David Pernice told the council he had been unable to make contact with a newly approved hire and said he assumes the candidate is no longer interested.
"He said he has tried to make contact but has had no luck. He is assuming he is no longer interested," Pernice said, adding there are 32 candidates on the consortium list and that he would reach out to the Civil Service Commission to set up oral exams and send letters. Pernice said his long‑term goal is to hire two part‑time officers though only one position was approved at this time. Council agreed to pursue hiring one part‑time officer and directed the chief to continue recruitment steps.
