Council awards $22,295 pipe-repair contract to fix sinkhole at Municipal Lot #1

Streets Supervisor Bob Phillips described a sinkhole at Municipal Lot #1 and presented engineering recommendations including replacing a 24-inch clay tile, reconnecting pipes in the sinkhole, installing a larger catch basin and replacing roughly 10 feet of pipe. Consultant Insight and Engineer Tim Wells recommended lining pipes in sections and making the pipe and catch-basin repairs.
Council reviewed two estimates: Mansfield submitted $22,295 and McLallen Construction submitted $23,450; both required the borough to provide a truck. On a motion by Councilor Steadman and second by Councilor Osborn, council approved the Mansfield contract for $22,295 to complete the work. The motion carried unanimously.
