Police Chief David Pernice reviewed July 2024 police activity at the Aug. 13 council meeting, reporting 269 calls between June 1 and Aug. 13 — roughly 3.63 calls per day — and noting that some responses can occupy an entire shift. He highlighted recent incidents involving domestics, mental-health crises, vandalism and burglary.
Pernice said he and Officer Shelly attended an active-shooter training July 24–25 hosted by Millcreek PD. He also reported the Union City Community Foundation awarded two grants applied for by the department: one to fund four tasers and another to install additional security cameras to cover a section of North Main Street.
