The Porterville Unified School District board approved several new curriculum courses during the April 9 meeting. Approved courses include Arts, Media, and Entertainment Technology 1P–3P at Harmony Magnet Academy; Flight 103 (Careers in Aviation), Flight 104 (sUAS), Flight 151 (Pilot Ground School 1) and Flight 152 (Pilot Ground School 2) at Porterville Military Academy; and Hospitality Management HOSP P100 at Monache High School. The motion to approve was moved by Donna Berry, seconded by Pete Lara, Jr., and passed with all seven members voting aye.
District instructional leadership presented the courses as part of expanded career technical education offerings; the aviation sequence and hospitality class add career pathways options for high-school students, while Arts, Media and Entertainment Technology courses expand elective pathways at Harmony Magnet Academy.
