Story County Board adopts supervisor-district Plan One and draws lots to stagger initial terms

The Story County Board of Supervisors voted Jan. 27 to adopt Supervisor District Plan One, a redistricting map prepared by the Legislative Services Agency under state law.
Lucy Martin, Story County Auditor, told the Board "the County is mandated to go to supervisors by district by Senate File 75," and she reviewed the redistricting standards from the Code of Iowa used to draw the three plan options. After discussion, Supervisor Latifah Faisal moved and Supervisor Lisa Heddens seconded approval of Plan One; the motion passed unanimously on a roll call vote. The Board then followed the statutory procedure to draw lots to establish initial staggered terms; lots were drawn and District 1 was selected to receive the initial two-year term so that seat will thereafter fall on the presidential cycle.
The Auditor noted all three supervisory seats will appear on the 2026 ballot and recommended informing voters about candidate requirements and filing; the Board discussed funding for voter outreach and agreed to incorporate notification steps into budget planning. The Board's action implements the county's compliance with Senate File 75 and Code of Iowa provisions governing supervisor districting and term staggering.
