Pawnee City recommends 2% annual increase to county law-enforcement contract if fourth deputy is hired

The law-enforcement contract committee presented scenarios for increases of 2.8% and 3.0% annually; after discussion the council voted to recommend a 2% annual increase to the County’s contract for 2027–2030 provided the Pawnee County Commissioners approve and hire a fourth deputy. Sheriff Braden Lang explained that the city’s higher payments reflect additional enforcement of city ordinances and court-related costs smaller towns typically avoid.
Council Member Hatfield expressed concern about paying more than neighboring towns and asked about comparative rates; Sheriff Lang said Table Rock pays less than Pawnee City. Council Member Eisenhauer noted the committee’s spreadsheet and volunteered to adjust percentages during discussion. Council Members Fisher and Hatfield volunteered to present the City’s recommendation at the July 21 County Commissioners meeting. The recommendation as recorded is contingent on county staffing and therefore not a final contractual amendment by the city.
