Select Board approves letters supporting Trust for Public Land Dorset Ridgeline conservation

The Dorset Select Board unanimously approved letters of support for the Trust for Public Land’s Dorset Ridgeline project on Sept. 16. Hayden Smith of the Trust for Public Land presented three parcels proposed for purchase from OMYA and described them as high-value conservation parcels.
Representatives from state agencies described potential uses: Gunnar Nurme (listed in meeting materials as representing VFPR) noted a parcel likely to be owned by FPR and suitable for recreation and forestry; Will Duane (VTFW) highlighted a parcel adjacent to the Aeolus bat hibernaculum and described its value for conservation and science. Alison Clarke moved and Frank Parent seconded the motion to approve letters of support; the motion passed 3-0.
The board’s letters of support are intended to accompany TPL’s efforts to transfer ownership to state entities (state parks department or Vermont Fish & Wildlife) if acquisition and funding proceed.
