Dorset Planning Commission approves rezoning of 102 Church St for Field Club use

The Dorset Planning Commission voted on Aug. 5 to rezone 102 Church St from Village Residential to Village Business, clearing the way for the Dorset Field Club to use the property as part of its office and pro-shop cluster. The motion, moved by Chair Gay Squire and seconded by Vice Chair Scott Thompson, carried 5-0-1 with Commissioner David Berard abstaining because he works for the Field Club.
Commissioners were told the property had been used as a residence until purchased by the Field Club and is currently occupied as temporary employee housing. The commission noted that a separate change-of-use permit would be required before the club could alter operations at the site. Chair Gay Squire also said any new bylaw language related to the request should be reviewed by the town attorney before public hearings or permitting steps. The commission scheduled its next regular meeting for Sept. 2, 2025.
