Montrose fire department awarded $177,622 FEMA grant for SCBAs, council notified of match requirement

Fire-department staff briefed the council on a FEMA award to support new SCBAs. "I was notified the 1st of, 1st or 2nd of August that we were awarded our fiscal year 2023 FEMA grant in the amount of $177,622," the chief reported. The department said 14 of 18 packs were covered in the procurement and that four additional packs will need to be purchased to avoid leaving funds unused.
Officials said the grant requires a 5% local match of $8,458, which they plan to fund from capital-improvement accounts if necessary. Council members asked questions and thanked firefighters for the grant work; no additional council action was required beyond acceptance of the report.
