Subcommittee approves bill letting mayors and county executives lower flags locally

Vice Chairman McCallman described House Bill 16 97 as expanding ceremonial authority to allow local executives to order flags lowered to half-staff for the death of a prominent citizen.
"This bill would also enable the county executive or mayor and municipal mayors to, lower the flags in the city or the county to have mass for the death of a prominent, citizen," he said. Members had no questions and the committee voted 6–0 to move the bill forward.
