Board approves teaching kitchen and flexible furniture for Expanded Learning sites

The Richland Union School District Board on May 11 approved purchases to support Expanded Learning programming, including a portable teaching kitchen "Kitchen a la Cart" for $53,215.55 and classroom furniture and flexible seating from Lakeshore for $64,441.80.
ELOP Coordinator Jaime Cherry told the Board the kitchen will provide hands-on cooking experiences and nutrition education for students in grades 1–8 and that the furniture would support robotics, music programming and flexible instruction at the Redwood ELOP site. Both purchases are funded by the 21st Century Community Learning Centers Supplemental Grant and ELOP funds; agenda materials stated there is no impact to the district general fund.
Board members praised the purchases as complementary to the approved AniMakerspace and said the district will coordinate delivery and installation with site staff and expanded learning providers.
