Rick Snyder, the county’s Director of Finance, presented the sales-tax report for February and said the county’s portion was up 10.81% from the same month in 2016.
"If you look at lines 6 and 7, the county portion on the tax distribution summary ... the county's portion year to date totals $4,871,130 compared to $4,451,977 in 2016. This represents an increase of $419,153 year over year or 9.41%." Snyder said, adding that February was the second-highest February in county history.
Legislators discussed monthly volatility and the need to wait for reconciled quarterly returns before projecting trends; Snyder and others cautioned that prior-period adjustments and quarterly reconciliations could affect the final numbers.
