The Commissioners Court accepted the resignation of Rick Morrow from Emergency Services District 5 effective Sept. 30, 2024, and appointed Zachary Townsend to fill the unexpired term effective Oct. 1, 2024. Commissioners expressed appreciation for volunteer service on boards and committees during the appointment discussion.
The court also approved a release and settlement agreement with The Hartford Insurance Company of the Midwest totaling $1,591.20 to cover damage at 6780 River Road. Separately, the court approved a jail line‑item transfer of $5,100 for a sally port motor and $37,000 to cover Motorola body‑worn camera service fees, and approved a Sheriff's Office transfer to cover fuel, capital equipment and deputy cadet training costs. “Just a heartfelt thanks to all the people who serve on these boards and committees,” one commissioner said during the appointment agenda item. The sheriff noted that items had come to light about the county’s contract with the New Braunfels Humane Society and staff said discussions with the Humane Society are ongoing.
