Commissioners approve specialty-court and juvenile justice grants to fund probation staff and counseling

Comal County accepted several grant awards and letters of agreement from the Office of the Governor to support specialty courts and juvenile justice programs.
For the fiscal 2025 specialty courts program, the court approved a $74,086 award to support the accountability court program, covering probation officer salary and drug-testing kits, and approved associated letters of agreement to authorize county participation. County staff and presenters noted these are annual, competitive grants and funds are used for professional counseling, probation staffing and testing supplies. "This is our annual request that you approve the grant from the governor's office to fund the accountability court," a presenter said.
The court also approved a $30,000 juvenile justice and truancy prevention grant to support the Student and Family Empowerment Program, which funds counseling services in the community. Each grant acceptance was approved by voice vote and the county judge was authorized to sign electronic acceptances where appropriate.
