Comal County accepts roads, extends maintenance bond and seeks recycled asphalt assistance

Comal County staff reported on multiple road and subdivision maintenance items and the Commissioners Court approved acceptance and bond actions on Sept. 19, 2024. County staff described inspections of Copper Canyon Unit 11 and requested a four‑month maintenance bond extension for surety covering repairs; the court approved the extension. Separately, staff recommended accepting roads and stormwater infrastructure in Mayfair Parcel E‑8 Unit 1 after field inspections and supported releasing the associated construction bond.
County engineer David Volbert described the inspection tools used by the GIS and field teams and noted that a prior failure was repaired under the bond. “We accepted those roads, with the San Antonio ETJ…we are able to get a maintenance bond,” Volbert said, explaining the field inspection and contractor coordination process. Robert Boyd briefed the court on a TxDOT Local Government assistance program request for recycled asphalt pavement and said the program is a useful resource; the court approved the request to request 10,50 tons of recycled asphalt pavement.
