Comal County adds two early-voting sites, replaces a polling place and approves ballot-tracking purchases

Comal County's elections office presented several changes to polling logistics and voter services and the commissioners approved them on Sept. 12.
Elections official Cynthia Jaquay told the court the county has 142,176 registered voters and that Kirkwood Manor (2590 Loop 337, New Braunfels) and Mystic Shores Property Owners Association Community Center (FM 306 Spring Branch) requested to be early-voting locations; the court approved adding them for the Nov. 5, 2024 election. Jaquay also explained that Lakeside Golf Club is closed and that VFW Post 8800 (7755 FM 2673, Canyon Lake) will replace it as the election-day polling place; commissioners approved that change and confirmed the VFW site is ADA-compliant.
Jaquay described two purchases to improve voting for military, overseas and mail-ballot voters: an authenticated electronic ballot marking and delivery service for military/overseas voters and BallotScout, a ballot-tracking app that allows voters to track mail ballots from dispatch to return. "This will be a system where the ballot is sent out by this company to the military and overseas, but it's authenticated," Jaquay said; she added that BallotScout will let ballot-by-mail requesters track their ballots like a package. The court authorized purchases from the stated line item.
