Resident tells commissioners county burn ban not being enforced after neighbor fires

James Hooks, a Comal County resident, told the Commissioners Court during the public comment portion that his neighbors continue to burn materials, including wire, and that recent responses from county responders were inadequate. Hooks said he called the sheriff’s office and fire department but that field responders did not address the fires on his property.
“The sheriff's office showed up. They drove up to the intersection of my 2 streets, spoke for about 2 minutes and drove off and didn't even get out of the car and do anything,” Hooks said, asking the court to ensure the burn ban is taken seriously because his 85‑year‑old mother lives nearby. Hooks said Sheriff Reynolds told him the sheriff would follow up; the court did not record a direct response from the sheriff during the comment.
