The Gluckstadt Planning & Zoning Commission on Feb. 24 voted unanimously to recommend that the Mayor and Board of Aldermen approve a conditional use permit allowing Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church to add a family life and multipurpose facility at 729 Gluckstadt Road (Tax Parcel 082I-30-002/00.00) in the R‑1 zoning district. Chairman Melanie Greer opened a public hearing on the church's petition and confirmed that statutory notice and physical posting requirements were satisfied.
Caine Dearman presented the application to the Commission and Pastor Keith Gayden, Sr. spoke on behalf of the church, saying the proposed facility "will be for the youth, weddings, and will also be used for voting." No members of the public attended to oppose or add support. On a motion by Commissioner Phillips King, seconded by Vice Chairman Kayce Saik, the Commission voted to forward a recommendation of approval to the Mayor and Board of Aldermen. The recommendation is advisory; final approval rests with the Mayor and Board of Aldermen.
