Officials say opioid-settlement funds could pay for MRT classes, but Attorney General review required

Marshall County Fiscal Court members discussed potential uses of opioid-settlement funds July 27 and agreed to seek the Attorney General's guidance before spending the money.
Roger Ford, the county jailer, told the court "we can pay our MRT instructor and our, books and stuff that we need for the MRT class. Opiate money. And there is some medical and dental that can be paid out of the opiate money also." The Chair cautioned that the AG has the final say and said the funds currently do not allow payments for drug court.
Officials said they would consult the county attorney and contact the AG's office (referenced as "AG Coleman" in discussion) to verify allowable expenditures and avoid the risk of having to repay funds if used improperly. The court also discussed coordinating language and usage practices with other counties that had pursued similar settlement-fund expenditures.
