The Stephens County Board authorized placing referendum questions on the November ballot that would ask county voters whether to permit on-site distilled-spirit sales during expanded Sunday hours in unincorporated areas.
Staff explained that when the earlier beer-and-wine referendum was authorized the statutory Sunday timeframe was 12:30 p.m. to midnight and "that statute has since changed to now be 11AM to midnight." The board said this measure would align unincorporated county questions with the city's existing allowance and would be decided by voters in November. The motion to approve placing the referendum questions on the ballot carried.
If approved by voters, the change would apply only to on-site consumption in restaurants or hotels; package sales at liquor stores would not be affected.
