Comal County proclaims October Domestic Violence Awareness Month; Crisis Center cites recent fatalities, shelter plans

Tiffany Barrett, chief development officer at the Crisis Center of Comal County, thanked the court for the proclamation and relayed statewide and local service figures. In the meeting transcript she stated: "In 2023, 205 Texans were killed by intimate partners, including 179 women, 26 men, and 4 LGBTQ victims." Barrett also reported that "In 2024, we served 12 80 individuals, providing over 24,000 services through our shelter, advocacy, and counseling programs," and said a new shelter is expected to be completed in fall 2025.
Commissioners approved the proclamation by voice vote. Barrett invited community members to learn how to get involved through the Crisis Center’s website and highlighted ongoing service needs and the planned shelter expansion.
