Comal County accepts donations for Junior Deputy Program; sheriff staff describe youth-safety curriculum

Comal County Commissioners accepted donations Sept. 5 totaling $1,000 for the Sheriff's Office Junior Deputy Program: $200 from Michael and Gwendolyn Turpin and $800 from Comal County Crime Stoppers. County staff described the long-running, largely donation-funded program and its community benefits.
A county representative said the junior deputy program has been in existence for about 15 years and provides safety education for youth on topics such as water safety, electrical safety and gun safety. "The junior deputy program has been in existence for 15 years... we talk about water safety, we talk about electric safety, we talk about gun safety," the staff member said, and noted volunteers donate both money and time. The court approved acceptance of the donations on motions from commissioners and recorded the approvals by voice vote.
